Prairie Acres Conference

The first Annual Prairie Acres Conference will be held on August 24-28, 2026 in Edmonton, Canada.  The conference is co-sponsored by the Masonry Heater Association (MHA) and the International Masonry Institute-Alberta (IMI).

This five-day/five-night event offers educational opportunities for masonry professionals looking to advance their own skills and knowledge. Registration includes:

  • Basics and Theory Class (additional class-specific cost to registrants)

  • Vaulted Oven Core Build

  • Boveda Brick Dome Build (Mexican-style brick dome built without centring)

  • Industry discussions

  • Morning coffee/tea

  • Lunch and snacks for the week 

  • Pizza Party Friday evening using the vaulted oven core build

  • All build and workshop equipment, materials, and handbooks

The standard registration is $500 USD per person for current MHA members. The cost for HMED Basics and Theory training is an additional $500 USD for a total of $1000 USD, and includes all handbooks, materials, instructor time, and heater mason training.  Non-members will sign up with the MHA before registering for the event. (MHA membership is $275 USD for 12 months.) 

Registration is now open. This first-time event has limited space, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Past trainings have sold out quickly. Registration will close on Friday, August 7th. Attendees will be responsible for making their own lodging arrangements.

There is an additional cost to take the Basics and Theory Class.
